Concur. I like to have a crew....might need to find figures from an older model or some other source. My new ten wheeler runs great, but did not come with crew, but the new decapod has them. Not sure about the 2-8-0. -Bob T.
Here is the way I did the Genesis GP7's... 1) I painted out the number boards with black paint then I masked off the number under the cab with tape & sprayed a little glosscote... 2) Once that dried I took some scrap black stripe Microscale decals & applied them over the number...I had some left over TTX decals from when I did a bunch of autoracks, the height is perfect & I cut the length just enough to cover the number...I also used Microscale red bottle when 1st laying them down, once they dried I finished up with Badger setting solution #802... 3) After that came the hard part, finding decals that matched the stripes...Unfortunately oddballs had the best match, 2nd best was Microscale 87-85...That's just my opinion, it's just like the R/W some people see orange, some see red... I used Microscale #87-115 for the number boards... Roger
So, an additional question for the GP-7. Nice job, Roger, BTW. I won a free weathering job from Ralph Renzetti from the Model Rail Radio track plan contest. I was going to send one of these GP-7s, maybe two of them and pay for the second. I am trying to find a good picture or two of these locomotives early in their life with some light-to-moderate weathering. Any ideas for sources. I have a couple of candidate photos from our archive. Are most early pictures B&W? Thoughts from soon after repaint? I need to send these off to Ralph soon. Thanks in advance, -Bob T.
Thank you guys for your input on the HO locomotive, your help is greatly appreciated!!! Edit: I have two HO figures that would probably work in the locomotive. Joe
Trainworld has them on sale right now: https://www.trainworld.com/manufact...baldwin-2-8-0-consolidation-rock-island-2123/
These are almost serviceable. Managed some time for windows and a little weathering. Can't seem to get the cupolas to fit right. Maybe need to make a small brass piece of flashing to hide the seam. Hope you all are having a good weekend and are staying well. -Bob T.
You’re most welcome and that’s a perfect setting. Nice trees and is that static grass? I’ve always wanted to try it out.
Doug shared this pic a few days ago. I had to try to do it over in my driveway in 1/87th scale just for fun.
Thanks Steve and Jim. Steve, those look great and that flatcar looks familiar. Jim, yes, the grass is Silflor (sp?) static grass. I think I am finally getting the hang of putting it down after 2-3 years. Ha! Take care all, -Bob T.
Hey Gary, that will be a question for Tom. I get no credit for the RS2. It was Kens that I acquired but I believe Tom did paint and detail work. Bob gets the credit for the flatcar. The GP7 is the one I just decaled a couple weeks ago. Bob those are great shots. I enjoy seeing your layout everytime.
This is the RS2M I did. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/ho-scale-rs2m-and-gp7-for-sale.3920/#post-26392
Happy Wednesday Friends, A couple of contributions this week. First, had some time on Saturday to try and finish up some projects in the "To-Do" pile. I always seem to have some cars that I assembled, but not weathered, need renumbering, or details added. I think this was the first Saturday without work in two months, so it was very relaxing to watch the NMRA-x broadcast and work on some modeling projects. Here are three Accurail cars that have now made it through the weathering stage. Various styles in the 1910 - 1925 time-frame: The Iron Mountain car is a decal set from K4 Supply. I gave it a number from the ORER that I am guessing are the last bought for that line. The other two are stock Accurail offerings. I have said it before, but I really like that Denver and Salt Lake car. There is a similar AC&Y car available that I need to get. In addition, I (lightly) weathered Tom's QA&P car that was a gift. I wanted to have it fit in on the layout with just a little fade and grme. Hopefully, acceptable to the QA&P senior leadership: Take care all! Have a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. -Bob T.
