As I have said in other post I am getting back into modeling after many years. I am using O scale and most likely will end up in Proto48. I do need some general info from any scale modeler starting with paint. I will be using wood and styrene and in the old days I used Scalecoat 1 and Floquil. Here are a couple of questions.

    1. What is the closest color to match Frisco boxcars and cabooses for the time period 1900- 1910?

    2. What brand of paint is best for this? I know Floquil is no longer around and I do not want to use acrylic paint.

Thanks for any help and I will have more questions later.

Agree! And, Scalecoat II Oxide Red is outstanding paint - I've used it for over 30 years, both spray and brush. It dries to a gloss finish, so you will need to dullcoat it after the decals are applied.

I have used Scalecoat for years, I have painted plastic with Scalecoat I, and metal w Scalecoat II, and "vise-verse" with no issues. Lacquer thinner for cleaning and thinning. Like Ken, I enjoy the decal ready finish, it goes on smooth and covers well too.
I have been kind of forced to go to Model Masters for common colors, over the last couple years as my my Local Hobby shop wont stock Scalecoat. But Scalecoat is definitely one of my favorites.
