High hood leads another high hood U25B. and what appears to be a GP35 somewhere in Kansas.

These slides are dated February 1967.

Moderator Notes: The train is southbound out of Kansas City, the first photo was taken at the Lamar Avenue crossing, Crossover B, in Merriam, KS.

The second photograph was taken at the I-35 overpass at Olathe, KS.

Here is an image I should have posted with the previous ones from 1967.

It is not a very good shot, but it does show some of the details of the high hoods on SLSF 800-807.

I got the okay to post this from Tom Wilson.

He is on the model railroad kit forum. Apparently, his father took a bunch of photographs throughout the Midwest. I will post stuff as I find them since he posts different stuff between Facebook and MRR Kit Forum.

Anyway, it appears to be U25B SLSF 802 high hood at Merriam, KS, MP C-8+43.

Edit 2/26/2024: Train is southbound on the Kansas City Subdivision. Merriam Drive is parallel to the west or left of the tracks. To the right beyond the communication and signals pole line is Interstate I-35. This is at I-35 Exit 228.

View from the U.S. 56 Highway / West 63rd Street / Shawnee Mission Parkway overpass looking north.

    That is a cool photo.

Good ideas for prototype layout structures and period vehicles.

    What is that third locomotive?

    Thanks Karl.

I figured it was north of Lenexa, but just could not remember where Suburban Auto was located.

Of course, it is long gone.

    I updated my original post.

That would have to be U25B SLSF 802.

As Paul said U25B SLSF 822 was a low hood unit.

Second Unit on the train was a low hood U25B.

Cannot make out the number very well, maybe SLSF 825 or SLSF 828?

And the third unit could be a GP35 based off of the spacing of the radiator fans.

Now that I look at it some more it might be a GP38AC or an Early GP38-2 that had the wider spaced radiator fans.

Normally they didn't let the GP38's get that dirty thought, but I've seen lots of GP35s that bad.

The location of the two U25Bs and the Geep is at the intersection of Merriam Lane and and Merriam Drive.

The building where Suburban Body Shop seen in the picture is still at that intersection today.
