Is there a real Thunder Grove in Australia ? This Thunder Grove is a mythical place somewhere in the region called the “Ark-La-Tex”, where most of my family is from. The town of Thunder Grove is named after a little grove of cottonwoods that used to be at the MP/T&NO interchange back home in the early 60s. We used to eat our lunch there in the shade during a long summer day of train watching. One day we were in there and heard a distant large explosion that shook the ground like 5 on the Richter scale. We never did find out what happened but that place forever on was known as “Thunder Grove” , its trees being “thunderwood trees.”
Nope...it's just that, in my Firefox Browser here at work...the picture shows up...as upside down! Hence, the "Down Under" train (sic) of thought...
