I got a Brass Steam engine and it had some issues with a side rod, fixed it and putting it back together. I believe over torque broke it in the first place. What can I use for thread lock on these tiny screws? Thanks
Tom, I heard of using white glue as it is very forgiving and even ACC depending on the application and how careful you can be applying it. Don Wirth would probably be able to shed the most light on this one. Brad
You have to be very careful with ACC or you'll weld the whole thing together. I've done it and can tell you it's not fun. Whatever you use, be very careful with it and use sparingly.
Thanks Brad and Don, The screw is tapered and should have never come loose in my estimation, and likely never would have. But it was over tightened and split the part I think. So, bent it back used some good Flux, and Silver soldiered, now the screw is seated well, tightened and the mechanism is very smooth, it works great but I would like to know how to proceed. Was wondering if canopy glue or Blue Lock-tight was OK, just wanted to hear from you guys. Like Brad I thought Super glue was the way to go. I will try to take a pic of the part tomorrow, please forgive as I do not know what the proper nomenclature is. Not a Steam guy, but this was just so cool. Thanks, I needs my Frisco guys to help me a bit here. It is a United D&RG L-131. A nice steam locomotive, hope to see it pull, as good as it looks. When you stop and think about what Steam Engines, and the folks that ran them did to win the 2nd World War, I mean they deserve some respect. These engines were used and abused till the mid 50's, and not one survives.
