Hard to tell but different eras warranted different attire. I have an old N&W promotional film on VHS where the conductor's wearing a blazer-type jacket and fedora over his overalls. From a distance, it may have been hard to distinguish him from a DS if not for the wad of paperwork in his hands. While they're not on the running boards, Tim Cannon has a great photo of Frisco Folk in Chaffee during a UTU strike (it's the second picture on the page: http://www.chaffeemissouri.com/gathertwo.html Forrest Finch (engineer) is 2nd from left. We went to the same church, and wish I'd had the wisdom to pick his brain when I was a kid. I am fortunate enough to have a couple of his old ETTs.
