Spotted an old Frisco friend on a siding in North St Louis today, 9/23/15, awaiting filling at the urea facility, think fertilizer, ( I know, I know lol). Angelrodt crossing on the K-line. The sun still shines on the Frisco.

I've also seen a few old BNSF hoppers with the SLSF letters. Why have they retained the Frisco markings?

Jim, it would cost additional money to change them in painting patches and in administrative costs doing all the background paperwork and computer database updating.

Thanks, Keith. It's nice to still see SLSF on freight cars no matter the reason.

Wasn't this car one in the order that was placed right around the merger? I think Frisco in Color mentions them being painted in "Cascade Green," but with SL-SF reporting marks. Guess the "BN" logo never made it on after 1980.

    Thanks for sharing, Craig.

    Best Regards,

As that story goes, I am thinking the cars were ordered during merger talks. It seemed kinda funny, but at that time, the ICC required the reporting marks changed, I am thinking in a year. At least I was told that for the engines. I'm not sure now, but thinking the ICC, went out or changed before the car numbers were changed. Now day's I am not sure they care anyway. Nice catch though, I don't imagine, theirs many of them left. I do remember big piles of number boards from the Frisco units laying just outside the Diesel Shop. I give several to members of the modelers group back then.

Spotted this sister hopper 86601 (BN green, w/ SL-SF reporting marks this afternoon 4/10/19. Scrambled to get the phone out of my pocket and out of its holder so I could take the picture.

Location: North St Louis MO., Buchanan Street crossing.
  10. Some railroads keep same railroad reporting mark & number so that they continue to know the car's entire maintenance etc. histories.
They can paint a patch on keep profits up. Holding parent company like G&W particularly do such with their short-lines.
