For those of you interested in the Frisco and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, take a look at the Southeast Missourian webpage search feature:

    http://www.semissourian.com

They have digitized all of their newspapers back to 1918!

Simply put in "Frisco" and any other word and you will get more hits than you can reasonably research. This should keep many of us busy for a long time.

If you select the option "Archive Since 1918," this will open all of the archived images.

Keith R., I am thinking that this may come in very handy as you model Cape Girardeau.

    Best Regards,

Chris, thanks for the heads up. The digital archives should be useful for RR and family history.

Chris, once again, thanks for your continuing interest in the homeland. I have no doubt that if I took the opportunity to really delve into what the Southeast Missourian has in their photo archives, I would be nearly overwhelmed.

I know this is really locale-specific, but anyone interested in a slice of life in Cape Girardeau from a mid-1960's perspective, you must include the relatively new blog; http://www.capecentralhigh.com/ .
It is written by Ken Steinhoff, a former Cape native, that began a career in photojournalism in Cape. He has lots of interesting stories and photos to share about Cape and the surrounding geographic area.

Very cool, Keith. 5 minutes of perusing and I'm already sucked in. The last time I flew with my Grandpa Phillips, it was from the Painton Airport!

He borrowed a friend's Cessna 150 so that we could fly to Reelfoot Lake, TN for lunch. A sod strip is not for the faint of heart, I found.

He and another friend also bought an old Stinson Flying Station Wagon in the early 90s and rebuilt it inside the Painton EAA hanger.

But I digress...a very neat find indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Almost forgot, Fred Lynch's blog also has an audio slide show interview with G.D. "Frony" Fronabarger. It has several old photos of Broadway, Main Street and the "Haarig" neighborhood around Sprigg and Good Hope.

Keith, I forget your precise era, but it would be awfully neat to see the St. Charles Hotel a block up from your mainline.

    Best Regards,

Chris, They are not finished with every issue. It looks like they do not even have half of the issues digitized yet. There is a ton of stuff now but just wait until it is complete!
