Does anyone know when the decision was made to simplify the b/y paint schemes on the F/FA units? I believe I've seen photos of them as early as 1964 with a daub of yellow but was it earlier? If you want to go to the head of the class, what unit was the first out of the paint shop in the simplified paint job?

    Larry -
Mike Condren's website shows #5023 in November, 1964 with the simplified "cigar band" scheme, about 1/8 of the way down the page (Paint Scheme FR-F2a per his designation). However, there are not any specific "start dates" listed.

Additionally, I found a Doug Hughes reference to #18 going to "solid black" in 1972, with yellow lettering/numbering and small safety strip tags along the side.

Alas, I will be a laggard in the class. I can't help on the "first out" question but it would be an interesting tidbit to know.

    Best Regards,

Rich, good catch. Hadn't even searched here; I just went to the FMIG issues and then moved onto the next item. Thanks for adding; that thread has some info from Andre Ming that I'd overlooked previously.
