I know some you FRISCO fans have enjoyed reading our online modeling magazine, Seaboard - Coast Line Modeler. NEW Issue #12 available for download at http://s-clmodeler.aclsal.org/currentissue/sclm12.pdf Info and modeling SCL's GP38-2's are feature articles. I know a lot of SCL-FRISCO run-throughs were powered by these locomotives. Thanks for looking Buck Dean Web Services Seaboard - Coast Line Modeler
Must be a bug in Buck's link. Do this: o go to www.aclsal.org o click on S-CL Modeler o The new issue, Issue 12, is there for download (as a .pdf file) o Issues 11, 10, and 9 are also still available, plus a large special issue, all also .pdf files. Ken
Howdy, gang. The link has now been fixed. Buck, thanks for sharing. It looks like S-C-L Nation is doing some nice work! Best Regards,
1000 pardons, but it appears our host was doing some maintenance and nobody could get anywhere for awhile. Glad you all enjoy. Please let the editor, Warren Calloway, know about it (there are email links) and anything you'd like to see. Buck Dean S-CL Modeler ACL & SAL HS
Buck - When SCL Modeler issue 12 was first posted I took a quick look at it but did not download it. Ever since, I have not been able to access it. What's up? Can't wait to see the GP38-2 article - one of my favorite 2nd-gen locos. Lord knows the SLSF had enough of 'em! Ken
It may not be of great interest to the average Frisco fan but the relationship between the Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Air Line, Louisville & Nashville and on into the Seaboard Coast Line era were quite close. Ed Bunch (see my post) was district sales manager for the Frisco in both Tampa and Miami until his early retirement with Burlington Northern when BN closed down the off-line traffic offices (improved Customer Service?). Another Saturday two hour chat was rewarding to say the least. I mentioned the Rome Avenue spur in Tampa that dated from the ACL days and he asked if it was still there. Nope, it has been lifted, the last customer was Logan Lumber Company. Logan Lumber? Ed told me that he was able to get a lot of Frisco routing of lumber products from the Pacific Northwest via Kansas City-Birmingham for the Frisco with final destinations in Florida, Logan Lumber being one of the better customers! Really great to be able to chat with a good old Frisco boy (he is 88 years young!) who got his start with the Frisco in Amory, Mississippi as a mudhop. Logan Lumber had a large (1) roster of the Thrall All-Door boxcar. My late friend from Tampa, Robert Taff, had a slide of it but it was not recovered after his 2006 untimely passing. Anybody out there know anything about this lone car? I saw the slide so know the car existed. After the 40 foot boxcar was replaced by the Thrall´s which ones were most observed riding Frisco rails? A lot of Florida´s older homes are constructed with lumber that was shipped on the Frisco! Joe Toth The Trinity River Bottoms Boomer
