I bought my first Model Railroader in quite sometime and was pleased to see the Proto 2000 E7A announcement. While these guys are a little pricey compared to the E8As, they do have road specific details.

Does anyone know if they will be offered in Frisco's Meteor or Texas Special schemes? A MKT in Texas Special would be nice as well.

    Ship IT on the Frisco!

    Howdy Rick,

I read in Model Railroad News that the first run will not include the Texas Special (Frisco, Katy) locomotives.

Guess we need to mount an email campaign asking for Frisco loco paint schemes. Anyone know who to contact?

    Best regards,
    mike

The problem with the manufacturers being willing to do a Frisco or Katy E7 unit in The Meteor or the Texas Special scheme is with the side fluting. None of them want to do that just for the demand created by SLSF and MKT fans.

    Too bad.

You can still have an "authentic" Texas Special with Frisco "Racehorse" E-8's--OR Katy E'8's or PA's. Let's HOPE they do just five minutes more research than did Lionel (O, O27), Con-Cor (N scale) and whoever does the ficticious Texas Special E-8 in S scale!! (Or for that matter, old man "Bill" Walthers did in his decal and lettering booklets)

Plus there were the HO brass E7's that were at least close to The Meteor and the Texas Special schemes. I know Overland offered some recently. Don't recall who it was before that.

Problem is you had to mortgage your first born in order to afford them.

A Walthers set would be neat. We should set up an organized campaign, along with the Katy folk.

Heck, I wouldn't care if they did shadow fluting on a smoothside, then let us apply our own currgated siding. With all the stainless steel etching done these days, it shouldn't be that difficult. It's the window arrangements and the observation car that are tough to get just right.

    Persist!

Anybody have any ideas on how best to approach the Katy T&HS folks to, possibly, jointly lobby Walthers to do a Texas Special set?

Who among you are Katy RR HS members?

Ken--I could run something by the Katy Yahoo group if you like, but I don't know what or who to ask?? I'm an N scaler and Steve Goen (Katy author and modeler, also an N scaler) and I are both on the Katy Yahoo chat group (I'm also in the KRHS--don't know about Steve??) and we had a recent skirmish with Intermountain about their N scale FP-7's where we both offered them photos, paint schemes, details, etc. for a Katy as delivered red/yellow/silver FP-7 (Which would also serve as a prototype correct Texas Special engine) and I offered them Frisco b/y FP-7 info and we were both blown off by IM. They produced an SLSF b/y in HO and an HO Katy Deramus Red model. But no as built Frisco or Katy engine in N. I have no idea who to contact at Walthers about any (HO OR N) projects and I'm bummed out with IM and their dismissive attitude. Most Katy Ho-ers I know already have Hallmark or Overland brass Texas Special or Meteor trains. This doesn't particularly answer your question, BUT if SOMEBODY (Walthers, Kato etc.) makes and an N scale Texas Special, you can pencil me in for a full set! If you ever find someone at Walthers (or maybe Kato) interested in a Texas Special project, IMPLORE THEM TO DO THE RESEARCH! And pick the brains of those of us who might know just a wee bit about the Texas Special and Frisco passenger trains.
