Just received some pics of the pilot models and textures for an upcoming Frisco engine/equipment pack for MSTS. Thought some of you Friscophiles might find it interesting!!

Where do I get this, and how do I get it to work? I tried downloading some frisco stuff before, but I couldn't get it to work.

    Hi IB:

It's not released yet. The fellow creating it is still tweaking and still needs input on how Frisco did things with their motive power.

As for downloading... I figure this pack will be payware by Belanger Locomotive Works. Typically, his packs install with a point/click. Presto: The pack is installed painlessly. That done, they're ready to select within Microsoft's Train Simulator and start railroadin' on your whatever your favorite Microsoft Train Simulator route happens to be.

Looks like another diversion to keep me from building my layout. I bet these would be fun to run down your A&O Sub.

    Hi Guys!

Tell me about it. I have been very "flat" in regards to all of my train related modeling, including V scale. This pack just might get me goin' again doing something!

Keep all this under your hats, guys... 'cause I'm sharing/telling industry secrets here ahead of time... :D

    BUT...

Gaetan (the model builder) also intends to create some orange & white stuff as well! Geeps in o&w... some F's... cool!

Thus far, my FAVORITE is the FA. Man that thing looks BAD to the BONE!!! We "need" it in cigar band too.

Andre, the FA needs the green sunshade paint on the front deck.

Some (Maybe most??) of the FA's lost those anti-glare panels in repaintings. Some faded to gray.

    Hey Andre
I'm one of your customers for the st. louis and north akansas route, and I've found it quite a blast although it's been a while since I've sat down and played. It is interesting to think of b/l gp7's crawling up to the tunnel, but I think a ACF motorailer might be a bit more appropriate. Hmmm, rainy saturday nothing on TV, I wonder if that freight ever got out of Eureka..........

    Hi Y'all,

Okay. Frisco for dummies time. What is this all about? Looks like a computer simulator. Which one is it?

    Thanks,

My thoughts exactly. The ACF motorailer would be cool too.

Andre made a Train Sim game based on the St Louis & North Arkansas railroad, which connected with the Frisco at Seligman MO. It utilizes Microsoft Train Simulator (MSTS) as the base program needed to operate.

(I'm biased, I spent most of my childhood in Seligman.)

    Hi SABRR:

As Ozarktraveler said, this is for Microsoft's "Train Simulator", or "MSTS" for short. It's an old program, but has been upgraded repeatedly by the MSTS hobbiests until it is quite good.

With MSTS, you can run the train from within the cab (complete with an interior cabview and such), or hang your head out the window (with complete control to pan your "head" around and look here/there), or you can run it from outside the train in an elevated position (like watching a model railroad), or even watch your train from trackside like a railfan.

Plus, you can switch cars, run through freights (or passenger trains if you have the equipment), create "Activities" (an operating session) that can include "artificial intelligence" trains (i.e. opposing traffic, etc.)

All of this within a "virtual" world that takes zero floorspace as well as can be made to look quite realistic. Below you'll find some "screen photos" of the new Frisco power taken on a modified version of my "A&O Sub" route. This will help to give you and idea of what V scale is about.

  13. Hi. I just purchased MSTS this week and it will be delivered in a month or so. This is my first time to have a V-scale program. I plan to add alot of Frisco goodies. Do these engine cost to add? or are they a free download? Hopefuly I'll have the program running good by christmas. Hope to join the V-scale Frisco Society soon.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

I recently got Railworks3 TrainSimulator 2012 for Christmas, and so far I'm in the learning-curve phase- I've managed to run a UP freight up & over Cajon Pass without derailing, or having a broken coupler, so I guess that's something :)

I don't suppose any of those goodies out for Frisco in MSTS would load into this new stuff, would it?

Bob, I got Trainz 12 for my Birthday back in December. I like the game to. I'm enjoying the Mojave Sub, but that's about the only good one so I'm working on building my own. I had wondered the same thing about the MSTS content cause there is next to nothing on download station and most of it doesn't work with TS12. I had planned on asking (a different forum) about it. I'll let you know what I find out.

Sorry, MSTS equipment is not compatible with Trainz.

In fact, each simulator uses proprietary content. i.e. MSTS uses stuff designed/ported for MSTS, Trainz uses equipment ported for Trainz, and Railsim/Railworks uses content ported for RS/RW.

The creator of the content would have re-compile/re-export his 3D model using the proprietary format the target sim uses.

Congratulations to FriscoBob for getting over the Mojave Sub without breaking a coupler. I failed that on my first and only try. It may have gone better to replace "the ATSF blondes" with Frisco SD-45s (see https://jointedrail.com/product/emd-sd45-slsf-phase-2b/ ).

Too bad some of Coonskin's MSTS lovely toys will not function in TRAINZ without extensive re-work. While TRAINZ download station is a bit sparse for Frisco, there are a few bright spots of content with the familiar name of "dricketts" associated. TRAINZ content available on other sites sometimes fails the rivet count. For one example F-7A's and B's have dynamic brakes. There is some good content available, but in general rectification of this unfortunate situations furnishes worthwhile activity. Frisco.org is a great resource for a.) knowing the difference and b.) getting an idea of what the right thing looks like to guide content creation.

Mildly on topic, I have TRAINZ 2012 also. My interest gravitates towards the Northeast Corridor route, though. It is extremely well done. However, I have replaced the Acela trains on the NE Corridor sessions with the GG-1's and MP-54's I used to watch while in college. It seems I was not fortunate enough to attend M. U. Rolla to see the red E-8s and B&Y diesels...

I've been getting over Cajon OK, but I seem to have a small problem with overspeeds. Gotta learn to balance train braking and dynamic braking better........ that, and find some proper diesels to replace the UP SD40-2s which are on the point of BNSF freights on Cajon.........not a single Warpumpkin in sight.

Plus, my MSTS disks, while carefully saved, don't seem to want to load up anymore. Plus, when my old computer crashed & burned, I lost beaucoup MSTS foles, including the Ft. Smith Sub and COdy Winkleman's Wichita Sub. Dang..........

Oh well, hopefully more files will become available.....

BTW- when I loaded TS2012, I had to sign up with Steam, which allows for online multiplayer games. But, since I can't see a middle-aged man playing Call of Duty 2 and getting waxed by some kid, I'll stick with TS2012.

And another off-topic note- the game also features British steam & diesel, and running their B-B locomotive was, to say the least, quite interesting, as well as the diesel-powered DMUs on the Great Western.

I always break a coupler on the Mojave Sub, even with DPU's. I've only finished one activity and that is the Walong stall.

Hopefully soon enough I will have my own route done. Actually it's just one town to be accurate :)
