American Model Builders has released two news sets of laser cut windows for Atlas diesels. Laser-cut, pre-masked clear acrylic for use with Atlas Alco S-2/4 HO Scale Kit No. 393 Window Set for Atlas Alco S-2/4 MSRP $5.95 Laser-cut, pre-masked clear acrylic for use with Atlas B23-7 and B30-7. HO Scale Kit No. 394 Window Set for Atlas GE Dash 7 MSRP $5.95 I for one am curious as to whether anyone has used these in other models and how much difference they make?
Bob, I bought Kit #227 some time ago for an Athearn "blue box" F-unit that I Friscoized. I found the results to look much better than the old Walthers' F-unit superdetailing kit. Getting them into the openings was what I found to be challenging. I took a flat toothpick and wrapped some masking tape around the end. I then used it to hold the windows in place while I carefully applied some CA around the edges with a small wire in a pin vise. They sure look much better than the .010 clear styrene that I used on my SW1500. Best Regards,
CA can really fog up window material. Future floor wax is a safe alternative used by car modelers. Just a thought.
For a glue that has good tack, dries clear and won't attack paint or plastics, I highly recommend J & Z Products Super Z-R/C 56. I discovered this fine adhesive while working in the hobby shop. It was used to attach canopies, windshields and windows to R/C airplanes but I have used it for many other things as well where transparency and possibly flexibility mattered. This is very good for laying down wiring in body shells. NOTE: Pacer Technologies (also Robart) PT56 Formula 560 canopy glue is a "clone" of this and is available from Walthers.
