To All: Athearn ha announced production of a 3-Window Wood Caboose in their Roundhouse product line. They will produce 3 road numbers and the car will have an MSRP of $25.95. The announcement says this represents a 1960's era model. I welcome the resident experts on the loop to express what they feel about the authenticity of the offering taking into consideration it is a Roundhouse model with a $25.95 MSRP. Yes, it is a wooden three-window cab; yes the Frisco used wooden three-window cabs. But, there will be a host of differences in detail between the two. I think the effect will be similar to the Athearn bay-window cab vs the Frisco bay-window cabs. Like those, it will look good, but there will be many detail problems. Better than nothing, however, and it won't cost much. Ken
At the least, you could change the cupola roof from rounded to angular, and call it good. Maybe add some grab irons here & there. Otherwise, it's a fair fill-in.
I think Roundhouse/MDC released this car earlier in Frisco colors. I believe it had a squared off cupola. Ken
