Maps

  1. Hi..

I have been working on building a HO scale layout and was looking for some maps of towns that shows the track placment. I have not decided what town but I would like to have some street trackage with a heap of place to switch out train loads.

I have been slowly building up a small fleet of 2-10-0 Decapods but not sure if they are 100% right, what needs to be do to get them close.

One detailed source of track alignments might be the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps that also show buildings including depot, freight sheds. They are not available for evrey town. You might also check with local libraries to see if they have Sanborn maps or copies. They are also available on line I believe.

Perhaps you haven't explored everything on this site. If you get into the "threads" you will find track diagrams that can be printed. Luckily for you they are probably steam appropriate, compared to those of us more interested in the final Frisco years. Search by the division or city name and see what you find.
I've looked at some pretty interesting Tulsa diagrams. Complicated arrangements that definitely involved some streets.
You can go to Terraserver.com or GoogleEarth or whatever to find photos and topo maps that may show what's left of the tracks. But the libraries will probably have more historical data once you know what you're looking for.

Well, as for maps, I would checkout www.topozone.com , and pull up Wichita, a town well served by the Frisco, and decapods. There is plenty of street switching to keep you happy. And if you are not sure, get MSTS, and download the FriscoKD.
