Does anyone still try to work with the Kadee/Micro-Trains magnetic Couplers? I don't mess with them any more, I've gone to the 0-5-0 switch engine. And I've read in master modeler Lance Mindheim's blog where he suggests using nippers and just cutting off the pins altogether.

PS: Isn't it a shame that after all these years in the history of scale model railroading, there still isn't a decent automatic coupler!!??

Those who operate on HO layouts generally use something like a skewer stick or a trimmed-down coffee stirrer to reach between cars to uncouple cars. For passenger cars you pretty much have to use magnets because the diaphragms get in the way. Unfortunately, N scale cars do not have the mass to allow much poking around between cars without getting flipped off the rails altogether. Of course, I am still waiting for a simple signal system that will function prototypically.

Next time you HOers go to a Chinese restaurant take some chopsticks with you. There's your skewer/uncoupling stick!
