Hey all you folks in KC, so much for Spring. Your snowfall just made Fox News! Looks as if you get more basement time.
I miss the snow. I love to play in it. Roosevelt has never seen snow. I don't know what he'd do, but I'm sure he'd have a blast in it. Then again, in certain circumstances, he can't stand to get his paws wet, so he might wimp out. Y'all be careful if you need to travel. Like Jim said: "More train time!"
Oh yea Charlie, I forgot you're in the great white north. You probably have snow shoes hanging in your closet.
StL getting it now too! I had my USO shift this morning - at 5:30am no snow, just a bit of rain. When I came back out of the USO at the airport when my shift was over (10:30am), snow snow snow! Lots of cars in the ditch, one turned over at the I-70 airport eastbound exit ramp. But ... my trusty Audi A6 4.2 Sport quattro was more than a match for the weather so I had no problem, but there were lots of crazies still out on the streets that scared me to death. Back home now after 70 days at our place in Naples. A two-day drive each way. Saw exactly one train - a CSX full of covered hoppers in Kentucky on the way back. Read a nice book on the railroads of Southwest Florida, plus bought a neat book about the construction of the FEC Key West extension. Good to be back on line. Can't do much on frisco.org when I'm gone as the new format does not get along well with my iPad. Have a problem now with my computer here as for some reason, I cannot access the internet on MS Explorer. But - Safari works. Go figure. There's always something! Ken
lots of snow in the high country here too. Got stuck waiting on three of those six axle GE's that have the #2 and #5 axles as idler axles, they stalled on a Westbound they should have easily handled. They just wont pull a lower speeds like ones with all six axles working. Road Foreman asked how fast they were going when the train stalled. The crew said exactly Zero miles per hour. You can't make this stuff up. You guys have fun. I gotta get a nap.
All this talk about snow brings up a question, DID THE FRISCO EVER HAVE A ROTARY SNOW PLOW? If so does anyone have a picture?
Good news and bad news: Good - I just spent the last 60 minutes with ATT U-Verse. Their technical specialist was able to fix the problem with my pc that was preventing me from accessing the internet via MS Explorer. Quite impressive! Bad - It is still snowing. During those 60 minutes, two of our pine trees in our back yard have come crashing down from the weight of the snow. Rats, they were beautiful trees! I feel like going back to Florida! Ken
I know how that feels Ken. When I grew up, the house was surrounded by 75-125' pines. We had a bad, heavy, wet snow one year, and the trees branches and a few came down. It sounded like cannon's going off and the scariest part was when you heard the crackling of the splitting wood, right before the dead silence. Then, THUD! I'm glad that there was no damage to the house, your cars, or garage (if you have one). Pine trees can do a heck of a lot of damage. Glad AT&T got your internet fixed. Their service is pretty good. I use U-Verse myself.
Four of us Kansas Citians were in Tulsa, Friday evening and all day Saturday for operating on model railroads and the annual Layout Design, Operations and Planning symposium hosted by the Cherokee Nations chapter of the NMRA. We left Tulsa last night (I was driving) at 10:00pm and made mad dash east to Joplin, then up the new I-49 (US-71) back home. Ran into relatively heavy snow about Peculiar. I hit the bed at 3:00am. Long day.
Of the about 3" here in Lamar most of it melted yesterday. Even when the roads were fine and clear some of the drivers scare me (got stuck behind one yesterday), I couldn't imagine how bad some would be in the big city. And to give a quote I heard yesterday from twitter "this is a nice winter we're having this spring" Ethan
We have about 10 inches here!! A snow day for sure. I may get brave and go out and plow the C,H,& S division of the Frisco!! Ken, how big the trees, and would you like them removed for the wood? [ we heat with wood!] Dan
DanHyde, will you use the plow on the locomotive front, or something less prototypical? If the Frisco ever had a rotary, I bet the C.H.&S Division would appreciate the loan of it right now! George
If you go to the album, "Dans Stuff", you can see what I use.A bit prototypical, except for the extra weight! That brick is from the Consolidated Shops in Springfield. Dan http://www.frisco.org/vb/album.php?albumid=25&attachmentid=15038
