Finally I'm about to start building. After much doodling I've decided to stick with my original idea and model the West Bottoms in KC. The first section will include the KC freight house under 12th Street up to the MOPAC crossing along Santa Fe Street.

I know I have seen two pictures of the freight house in this forum, but just can't find them. Are post removed after a certain amount of time?
Anyone have and good ideas to kitbash this structure?

    John,

This is really great news! I am excited for you. We all look forward to seeing your progress.

I believe the photographs you are seeking are in the post "KC Freight Depot?" Please see the following link.

You might want to consider using the Walters modular wall system. Consider starting with sets 3722 or 3723. Please see the following link.

A starting point for the stone foundation might be the Plastruct, Inc. Please see the following link.

Consider their series of sheet materials. Please see the following link.

For the "Frisco Lines" heralds, consider Oddball Decals.

Their water tank sets are close and should fit the bill - sets 822 (130 & 151 inch across) or 823 (173 & 216 inch across). Please see the following link.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Glad to here that you are starting a layout.

Since I am doing a freelanced branch I will not be kit bashing or scratch building structures.

I will however try to rebuild a Tyco 50' flat car I found.

It used to be an auto rack but the rack disappeared a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

    John,

We will have to stay in touch, but leave college sports out of the equation!

The Kansas City Freight House will be one of the operational highlights of the joint SL-SF/AT&SF layout my son and I are building.

For what it is worth, here is a link to a photograph looking to the Northwest from 1944 showing the Frisco freight house. It is the building nearest the photographer. You can see part of the two-story section in the middle right, up against the 12th Street Viaduct.

I have some old, IHC maybe, brick buildings that I thought might be a good starting point for kit bashing the two-story portion of the freight house, but may just have to scratch build the actual dock portion of the building.

    Best Regards,

    Chris:

Thanks for the picture of the Kansas City freight house.

I have never seen this one before and it gives me a different perspective of the layout in the area.
