Micro-Trains has announced a new line of tank cars. The first one is Kan-O-Tex Petroleum Products of Caney, Kansas.

I've not heard of this one but I am wondering if it would be appropriate for a Frisco layout? Have we any knowledge of this company?

    Re: Kan-O-Tex Petroleum Products?

Looks like they had a main refinery in Arkansas City, built about 1917. Marketed product in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and later into Missouri. So product could have moved on the Frisco. The Kan-O-Tex brand and reporting marks were bought by a Oklahoma oil company in 1953.

Sisters to the Kansas Texas Coal Company, the cars were split into two groups: MKT and Frisco's. I have decals for the Frisco side of the deal, and these cars were seen running on the SA&AP. There were quite a few running on the Frisco, Charlie, so don't be afraid to go nuts with them. However, by 1953, Kan-O-Tex was defunct and no longer in business. That ended her run from 1905-1953.

I have two Kanotex P2K tanks that I guess I am lucky to have bought when I did. I bought all of the P2K 8000 and 10000 gallon tanks from a hobby shop years ago, and I have repainted and relettered several of them. I turned several into DX tanks that would have been seen in Tulsa at the DX refinery. The only tanks I can't find are NATX tanks from the transition period.
The kits were fun to assemble, and along with the Red Caboose kits I have assembled, I have a good number of these transition tanks. They are really cool cars. My grandson wanted a tank, but I couldn't give him one of these, so I gave him one that wasn't as good a quality but still looked good. He's happy and I'm happy.

I just got done selling all the Kan-O-Tex tank cars, both red and black lettering, complete sets on eBay. Had I known you were wanting them, I would have sold them to you. Sorry.

    Re: Kan-O-Tex Petroleum Products?

Intermountain is now out with it's July announcements and there are some interesting tank cars: Chickasaw Refining Company of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Mutual Oil Company of Kansas City, Missouri, Conoco of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and even Texaco. Another interesting one is Union Starch and Refining Company of Granite City, Illinois.

Do we have any idea how likely any of these would have been to be found on the Frisco?

I think any freight car from anywhere would have had a good chance to travel the Frisco. Just about any freight car from a western state on it's way to the southeast or to eastern states came through Springfield on the Frisco. An eastbound (or southbound) train going through Springfield was a rolling geography lesson. You could always tell which line the train was headed by the roadnames on the freight cars: (PRR, NYC, NKP, B&O, C&O, Erie, Wabash etc. heading east; SR, SAL, ACL, SCL, GA, FEC, heading southeast via Memphis).

    Skelly Oil Company

I remember Skelly gas stations when I was growing up in Kansas. The company was located in Tulsa. Micro-Trains just announced a Skelly Oil tank car:

Do we know if the Frisco served this industry in Tulsa?

There were Skelly stations scattered thru St. Louis as well.
