Hello, I am from north Texas and an active HO scale modeler. I direct most of my modeling efforts toward the North Texas Free-mo group these days, which entails module construction, trackwork, scenery, etc., but I also do a fair bit of modeling rolling stock, locomotives and TOFC equipment. I don't model one particular railroad, but I have a great deal of interest in railroads that operate in Texas. As I build my Free-mo module representing Dalwor Junction in Fort Worth, Texas, I am learning about the various railroads that came before BNSF and UP. My module represents a junction on the Rock Island, but one of my other favorite spots around Fort Worth is the Frisco along 8th Avenue and I can see myself modeling that area at some point. I hope to learn about Frisco freight equipment (especially TOFC and auto transport) while I'm here, so I may ask a few questions after I poke around and read the topics that have been posted already. Regards, Ryan Harris NRH, TX
Re: Hello from Noth Texas Welcome Ryan. I'm sure what ever info you need about the Frisco can be found here. I noticed you mentioned TOFC, Athearn is coming out with a run of TOFC in Frisco paint in a few months.
Re: Hello from Noth Texas Really? That's great news. I can always use more TOFC flatcars and trailers. Would you happen to know what kind of trailers Frisco used for the Beautiful Pigs?
Re: Hello from Noth Texas LOL I found the announcement you're talking about, but I'm a little disappointed they're using the PFE trailer when they have the Z van tooling. They need to retire it or update it. One of the recently run versions I have of that trailer has a nice pinch in the mid section. The Z van tooling, by comparison, is far better. Not only that, it resembles a far greater number of prototype trailers than the PFE trailer.
Re: Hello from Noth Texas Howdy, Welcome Ryan. I live down in the Granbury area and hang out at the Texas Western Model RR club in Fort Worth. Best regards, mike
Re: Hello from Noth Texas Thanks for the welcome, Mike. It's been years since I saw the Texas Western in person, but I saw a spread in the Cowcatcher (I think) a few months ago. You guys have really done well for yourselves. Next Free-mo ops session we have I'll be sure to invite you to check out North Texas Free-mo.
