I have given up on any manufacturer bringing back this in HO scale. To that end I have decided to do my own painting or hire someone to do it. In any case, I cannot find decals for the front and rear stripes. Does anyone know where they can be found? Also, does anyone know where I can find out the size of the stripes (width, length, exact location) how far they are spaced apart, etc? Thanks.
The only source that I know of was Oddballs Decals. Unfortunately, Oddballs is currently out of production. Hopefully that situation will change in the future. Andre
Mike Condren's website has more than two dozen photos of the black and yellow schemes: http://condrenrails.com/Frisco%20Catalog/EMD-GP7s.htm See also his paint shop column: http://condrenrails.com/Frisco/Frisco_PaintShop_GP7s.htm Frisco in Color by Louis A, Marre and Gregory J. Sommers, Morning Star Books (1995) Frisco Diesel Power by Louis A. Marre and John Baskin Harper, Interurban Press (1984) IMHO, the photos in the books aren't any better than Mike's photos on-line. There is a lot of variation, so you have to choose a specific unit and year to be strictly accurate. The nose stripes on the Oddballs set 187-180 are pretty close to 1/16 in., so you might find some standard stripes in yellow that size.
Check Microscale #91136, #91146 and/or #91156. Depending upon which size looks best to you, you should be able to trim these to fit. GS
Thanks for the information. Does anyone know what black paint will match to the color on the GP7 as some of the photos look like it might be more of a glossy black than a flat black.
Sorry to bother anyone buy I have extra Oddball B&W GP7 decals that include Alco RS1 decals along with decals made by the fine gentleman in South Missouri. If interested in proper decals send me a pm and will get your address. Your call but if use them do best to follow Oddballs instructions and the excellent photos of Mr. Condren. I am ate up with GP7 and have more locomotives and parts than my share. Is not a cheap hobby but enjoyable. Ricky
I use Scalecoat II Locomotive Black. Weather it to your taste. The GP7's were gloss black when new, or repainted. After years of service: flat, faded black, streaked, rusted, dented, lettering faded, etc. Ken
