My F3's just arrived! Beautiful paint and details. Also, the Rivo 60' baggage car arrived also. I'm pleased with it also. (Also, that's about the greatest number of "also's" I've ever used in one posting!) Glenn in Tulsa
I agree with Glenn - I think the Athearn Genesis F's (not just the Frisco F3's) are about the nicest off-the-shelf HO models of anything. Very well done, details specific to the railroad, terrific decoration, and are superb runners to boot. Love that headlight! Now, how do we talk Athearn into doing Frisco Genesis F7's in b/y? Ken
Ethan, Atlas produced their MP-15 DC lettered for the Frisco in 2006. They produced 4 of the 5 road numbers the Frisco owned. Also, they produced a painted but unnumbered unit (both conventional DC or decoder and sound equipped versions). Please see http://www.atlasrr.com/HOLoco/homp15a.htm. The Atlas units may be available on e-Bay, railroad flee markets or possibly some hobby shops. Athearn's model is of the MP-15 AC. The Frisco did not own this version of the locomotive. The primary exterior spotting feature differences for the MP-15 DC is a front mounted radiator intake similar to the SW-1500. The MP-15 AC has side mounted radiator intakes similar to a GP-15, SD-45T or SD-40T-2 "tunnel motor". Internally the electrical systems featured a generator (DC) or an alternator (AC). Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark
Thanks for the photo, Rick; if it can't be steam, this is not too bad! The F units sure looked more aesthetically pleasing in an all-F unit lash-up. Best Regards,
Speaking of the good looks of an EMD F-unit set ..... It really looked cool when five or six Frisco F's came around the curve at the south end of Pine Street in Rolla chanting in unison while still pulling hard after climbing Rolla Hill! Ken
It would be a sight to see. I think the only thing that would top it is to see 6 SD45's climbing dixson hill at full throtle. Talk about a heavonly sound. I have herd something similar an youtube though........
Six SD45's working the hill would be a sight to see indeed, but that consist was not allowed on the Frisco. Per ETT #1, dated 10/17/1971: "Not more than three (3) 900 series units coupled together, either working and/or being handled in train, will be permitted without separation by unit of less weight or by a car not exceeding 177,000 pounds gross weight." As Karl explained, the problem was that more than three SD45's coupled together put too much strain on the rails. Too many curves, hills, and sags on the good old Frisco for all that concentrated weight and horsepower! Ken
