As we all know, railroaders have unique language that they use to communicate. I suspect that most of us who are not railroaders know enough of the jargon to follow a conversation. I’d like to go a bit further, and see if there are any terms that are Frisco-specific. Here are several that I’ve heard my father use. Anybody care to add others. Redbirds Frisco E-Units. My father used this all the time. On the lead E unit on last Frisco psgr train out of KC Union Station, someone had written good bye redbirds. Bolsheviks 1613 Class 2-10-0's Bull Moose Gas Electric's The Yellow Canary Train ID NWF(Northwest Forwarder) and FSE(Frisco Southeast); Any UP Run-through A Yellow Canary Any UP Unit NWF Nowhere Fast FSE Frisco Slow Express QLA Quanah-Los Angeles, Queen Lady Mud Lines Pensacola Sub. and Mobile Sub. Then there's the inevitable "Scissorbill" which is what the River Division was called here in St. Louis. I'm assuming it refers to the Pelicans on the Gulf???
Father passed away in 1979. He was employed on Frisco and many tales were about "The Hickory," which I belive was a connection in Sherman. Can you help with nicknames of railroads?
My dad was a signal maintainer who had to deal with the Missouri Pacific at times. He always called them the MOP.
