I know that SLSF connected with the Fort Worth and Denver (FW&D) Railroad at Quanah, TX. Did Frisco ever interchange their trains with the FW&D to take it up to Amarillo to the FW&D interchange with the AT&SF to take it to the Pacific Coast?
I do not believe so. At one point the Westbound QLA and QSF were routed over the QA&P to the Santa Fe at Floydata, TX. I know the eastbound counterpart to the QLA was the CTB. I can't remember what the eastbound counterpart to the QSF was though. The trains were eventually re-routed in 1973, via Avard, OK, which was Santa Fe's preferred interchange point. Paul
The only time it would have happened could have been via derailment re-routes. I don't remember my Grandfather ever talking about such an event.
The counterpart for the QSF was No 32. As information, No 31's crew returned on CTB, QLA's crew returned on No 36, and QSF's crew returned on No 32, which was the last train called out of Quanah going to Oklahoma City (OKC). Train No 36 picked up on line cars going to OKC and beyond. Train No 32 followed No 36 doing the on line switching. Jerome OKC
