Ray-o-vac flashlight stenciled "PROPERTY OF STL - SL RWY CO". The pic of the end is an attempt to show that the glass lens is intact. $25, or best offer, plus shipping.

    These were popular among employees.

The rectangular slide control button featured 3 positions - off, intermittent, and on. There is a separate round contact button in front of the slide switch. In the intermittent slide position, the contact button could be depressed to illuminate the light. If the round contact button was released, it interrupted electrical contact and no light was produced.

The most common flashlight of this type used 2 D Cell size batteries. Although less common, there was a slightly smaller version that used 2 C Cell size batteries. In addition to use by company employees, some were given away as advertising and promotional gifts. Also, suspect more than a few wound up in the hands of Frisco employee's children.

As plastic case flashlights became available, the Mechanical Department - Motive Power banned these and similar type flashlights from use. They became prohibited from use by its employees, in locomotive diesel shops, service track areas or out in the field.

Turns out that metal case flashlights are a hazard around 600 volt electrical wiring, batteries and later electronic component systems.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Mark

    Great Keith.

I will box it up with the 3 magazines I posted from, the All Aboard, and maybe some more for your grandson.

I have to get out tomorrow so will try to mail it then.

    Dave
