I am just wondering, Did the FRISCO have more than one Bicentennial Caboose? I know several companies make a model of it, but I am wondering what was the number on it/ them. Even though I am mostly Steam on my Layout, I took the suggestion of a fellow FRISCO Modeler and decided , "It Is My Layout, I am Gonna have fun with it", This being said, I am thinking about getting one of these Red White and Blue Cabs to add to my Roster.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses I'm pretty sure they had just one, #1776. That's what every railroad put for a road number on their Bicentennial stuff.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses They had at least three, the #1776 and two others, one in Light Blue and one in Dark Blue. I'll see if I can dig out the pictures later. Richard
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses Richard, you might check #1240 and #1250. Those two come to mind and I think there was a third International caboose as well but the number isn't coming to me at present.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses The third caboose with the blue body and white stripes was 1700, a homebuilt caboose. There's pictures of it on Mike Condren's Frisco caboose page: http://www.condrenrails.com/Frisco Catalog/Caboose.htm Number 1776 got a fancier paint job because it was part of a promotional train in conjunction with the Santa Fe and Seaboard which had simalarly painted cars and a locomotive. Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses Several years ago, Overland produced a painted version of RW&B #1250. At the last minute, they added RW&B #1240 as the 15th available paint scheme to their current offering which is slated to be released later this year. If anyone might be interested in acquiring one, it might still be possible. I believe the order may have already been placed with the builder in Korea or China, but maybe one or more of the major retailers that Overland deals with ordered extras for stock. Follow the link below and hit the International Car Extended Vision button and scroll down to find #1240. By clicking on the red "Where to Buy" button you will see the dealers that ordered at least one of these cabooses in this paint scheme, albeit it may have been for a customer. It looks like since Overland themselves is listed that they may have ordered extra for stock. The list price on the model is $299 but the street price is n the $250 range. https://www.brasstrains.com/Classic...8-SLSF-Frisco-Wide-Vision-Caboose-1250-Custom I have #1250 from the first run and can attest to the fact that it is an accurate and beautiful model. Also you can see the other 14 paint schemes offered and the dealers who ordered them if you might still be interested in any of them.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses While we are on this subject, didn't they paint a caboose a very light blue (almost robin's egg blue) and it never made the road? I thought that I remember discussion of this and possibly seeing a photograph.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses RICH ! Good job on the #1700. I forgot about that one and you are right. It was home built, not an International.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses Actually credit on pointing out the 1700 goes to Rich Lawler (pensive), not me.
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses They are correct, 1776 was the only one with the Eagle Herald, 1240 was light blue, 1250 and 1700 were dark blue. Richard
Re: FRISCO Bicentenial Cabooses Please reference my "For Sale" post under Swap Meet as I am selling my Overland Brass Bicentennial Caboose #1250 Thanks,
Does anyone know when these paint jobs were applied? Could it have been as early as 1973 in preparation for the bicentennial? Charlie
During February 1976, the Frisco put caboose 1776 on display on one of the former Business Car Tracks at the depot site in Springfield. From the slides that I have of that event, I believe that I can read a 1/1976 build date.
