Bob Wintle has now achieved genius status. My front light issue was the failure of the mechanical connection between the light board and the wires from the front lights. Those rubber boots simply don't do the job so I soldered them and now all is operating smoothly.

I noticed that the Athearn SD40-2 has a two part cab window that actually slides back and forth in a little track. Nice detail that might otherwise get overlooked.

    One more interesting note.

Athearn did not provide a footboard or plow pilot for the SLSF SD40-2 so I requested footboards which would work until I could get some plow pilots. I just learned from Athearn that they were not included with the Frisco unit.

Just thought you all would like to know.

Are you saying that they were not included on purpose or by mistake?

This was an intentional ommission by Athearn. Similar to the lift rings we talked about. Still a good unit but missing some detail. Interestingly, the photo on their website showed the unit with a nonprototypical, black snow plow. Strange.
