I'm not sure exactly where but it's along the Diversion Channel. May 6th 1915. The engineer is R. Smith.
I have every reason to believe that the photo was taken at the Frisco crossing of the Headwater Diversion Channel, east of Nash. After spending nearly an hour scouring satellite imagery of the Little River Drainage District from Poplar Bluff to Cape, and south as far as Sikeston, there is only one spot where tracks cross a channel with an abrupt curve just after the tracks and that is just east of Nash. The photo was apparently taken relatively early in the project.
Great detective work! You really know how to apply new technology to prototype research. And 1915 was certainly early for the project. Didn't it stop in 1921 right outside Greenbrier?
Jim, that sounds correct. On trips to Zalma, Duck Creek, etc. I can remember my Dad pointing out the area near Greenbrier where the Castor River "turned into the Channel." Best Regards,
Yes. Back in the 60's my dad, grandfather, and I (and even another boat of other extended Robinson family members) made several trips up-river from the Greenbrier bridge, and then down-channel to the Allenville bridge froggin' at night. My dad would point out where the Diversion Channel captured the old Castor.
I miss that old Greenbrier bridge. I remember driving over it and hearing the old boards jump up and down and rattling as the tires went over them. Creepy.
