Hello All, I was noticing that Athearn’s GP50 3100 has a red horizontal surface on the short hood. Was this correct? I don’t recall other units having a red surface. Maybe this was a new idea to cut sun glare?
Hi Chris Ken Wulfert had an image of a couple guys standing on the front walkway on the SL-SF 3100, it clearly had no Red on the short hood top. With the exception of the high short hood units, I have never seen any hood units with Red atop the low short hoods.
Here is the pic Tom mentioned of the short hood on SLSF/BN 3100. Clearly, no red top on this guy. I looked at all my o/w pics of SLSF/BN 3100, and saw no evidence of a red top on the short hood. I guess it could have happened as an experiment on one or more other SLSF o/w units on the top of the short hood, but I have no recollection of seeing evidence of that. Obviously, though, I did not look at all my pics tonight! K
...mostly unrelated to my last post, but I dug up some photos of my visit to Lindenwood back in ‘78. The new along with the old...it was the first time I had seen a b/w unit live!
One more...I wish pic quality was better, but it’s just a pic of an old film pic. The memory was priceless, though. My friend and I received permission to ride in this switcher around Lindenwood. This was taken from my father’s ‘66 Mustang as we were leaving for the day.
