Much like my benchwork thread I just started, there's a lot of recommendations floating around for flex track Adhesive, some of which might be a little outdated.

I'm looking at stuff in lowes right now and seeing a lot of options for each brand. What's everyone's favorite these days? Every brand has different "models" available, so be sure to include that in your recommendation.

    TIA

    Ethan,

The adhesive to use is Dap brand Dynaflex 230. Recommend clear.

It is available at any location that sells lumber, hardware or paint including Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Orscheln Farm and Supply, Target, Tractor Supply Company, True Value Hardware and Walmart.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Thanks a bunch. I normally see guys recommend DAP, but I rarely see a product type with it. I'll get some 230 on hand.

    I second that. Works great.

DAP Dynaflex 230 is the word in attaching roadbed and track to any substrate. If DAP 230 is used properly track can be removed with a very thin putty knife, allowing changing track alignments. To apply the Dynaflex 230, lay about a 3/16" bead down the centerline and spread it with a plastic putty knife that has a serrated edge. I cut the putty knife down to the width of the ties. This type of putty knife can be found in the tile and grouting area of most hardware stores.

I saw some back and forth on a couple older threads, but no final answer: what is the current thinking on using DAP 230 to attach roadbed or flex track to plywood that has been painted with latex paint?

    Ethan,

The adhesive to use is Dap Dynaflex 230.

It is also a useful tool for attaching textured styrene sheet (brick, stone, etc.) to core building materials (styrene, foam core, etc.) for scale structures.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Mark and I would not steer you wrong, we are speaking from lots of experience. Rick McClellan also uses DAP Dynflex 230 as does everyone else here in KC with layout additions or new construction.

I trust the advice you guys are putting out, and I can't say it enough how much I appreciate your continued input.

To clarify, I'm not questioning the DAP 230 its self, I'm wondering about attaching to painted plywood vs unpainted plywood.

There's some spots on the layout I'm thinking about pre painting before the track is put down, but wanted to know ahead of time if latex paint would affect the adhesion of the 230.

No problems with painted or unpainted plywood and DAP Dynaflex 230.

    Ethan,

Best to paint underlying roadbed and landform your choice of dirt color once in place.

Also, be sure to paint the area below and just beyond movable turnout points and throw rods with black before fastening the track in place. In a pinch, a black Sharpie can be used to color this area. This is an area where minimal ballast and glue will be used. On the prototype these areas are often very dirty, greasy and dark.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
