Hello I am starting to paint some O scale Texas Special cars and need to know what Red to use. Some on told me some time back that Floquils Signal Red was a good choice. looking for suggestings. thanks William
It probabley depends on what you are trying to match too. I got the factory brass Hallmark in HO , Texas Special-Meteor set. I did not want to repaint the set no matter really what the correct color is. This is modelers liscense as sun fading and maintence on the prototype changed the color somewhat. The color I used was Krylon Fusion for plastic from Ace Hardware in Red Pepper/Safety Red. This matches closely, Mike has seen it on the TWMRC. MKTJames
Just an idea. Take a look in my album, "Dans stuff" and see the MTH Texas Special car with a piece of plastruct on it, painted with automotive Duplicolor from Autozone. A close match, and MUCH cheaper than some of the RR paints. Dan
For what it's worth, I like Floquil's Signal Red. I have painted both cars and locomotives with it. It is not as deep as the paint Hallmark used on the brass cars a number of years ago, but it does simulate Frisco red after it has been out in the weather for a year or so. I have never tried any of the "rattle cans" from general-use or automotive suppliers. GS
