    Extra 5226 North or X 5226 N

Alco FA-1 SLSF 5226 leads at least 4 other units on a northbound freight through Hoxie, AR.

Taken during the winter of 1962-1963. My father labeled the photograph as being train No 134, but the white class lamps and white flags would indicate that this is not a regularly scheduled train.

The Frisco would not hold a train for its scheduled departure time, if enough tonnage was ready to roll. Such a train would leave as an "Advance Section". In this case perhaps this was Advance 134.

Given that this was ABS territory, white lamps and white flags would be required. On the other hand, this could be just an ordinary extra.

The Hoxie depot is on the right, but to the left of the lead unit, is a depot that apparently has been moved from some other location. The station sign has been painted over, and its origin is a mystery.

Anybody have any information about this?

It is a shame that U.S. railroad trains do not look this neat any more.

Well, to my eye at least, they do not.

    Interesting picture, Karl.
