F7A SLSF 5022 (SLSF 22), EMD, 1500 HP F7A SLSF 5033 (SLSF 33), EMD, 1500 HP F7A SLSF 5034 (SLSF 34), EMD, 1500 HP Attached are the three Frisco F7A pics that are in my "Enid" negative collection. Three old warriors that each served long and well. Note the details that are just so much fun to add to your models, the speed recorder cable on the front truck, the rotary beacon on the cab roof, the "nail" radio antenna on the cab roof, the brake and multiple unit hoses, the lifting-type spark arrestors, and the various grab irons and lifting rings. Also, even though the forward facing horn was switched to a 5-forward Leslie Tyfon, the other horn remained a single rear facing Leslie. Note also that the nose herald was mounted much lower on SLSF 5033 (33) than on the other two. Why was this done? Ken
Yup, they look good in mandarin orange and white. But they look AWESOME in black and yellow! Andre Ming
Thanks for posting these pictures. Now maybe I can repaint my F units, again, and make them look better.
I am painting a pair of Athearn F7s, one A and one B unit. I am interested in the original headlights. I know from pictures there were two on the A units. The upper and one in the door. Does anyone know what the lighting configuration of these two lights?
The lower twin sealed beam light in the door is the headlight. The upper light in nose is an oscillating gyralite.
All of the EMD F units were delivered with a single high headlight. The FP7As quickly received the dual light package. The two F3As that were rebuilt into F9As also received the dual light package. Beyond that, I can find 1 F3A and 1 F7A that received the extra lighting. http://frisco.org/mainline/wp-conte...sas-date-unknown-Mac-Owen-Blackhawk-Films.jpg I would make unit F7A SLSF 5021, later renumbered SLSF 21, the subject of your painting project if your Athearn shell came equipped with a dual headlight.
Actually, the upper light is a Mars light. The light had a mechanism that would make the light oscillate in a figure eight or triple figure eight motion. A Pyle National Gyralite would oscillate in an elliptical or circular motion.
