Thanks to a lot of work by Don Wirth, Rail Graphics has agreed to produce a private limited run of HO Frisco steam locomotive decals in Dulux Immitation Gold. We think the color is pretty accurate, close to what Boo Rim used on the Glacier Park 4500's. We were able to have Rail Graphics produce an additional 25 sets at a reasonable cost and we are making them available at $5/sheet plus postage to anyone interested on a first come first served basis. I think it is a pretty small group of us who model the Hungerford era, but those that do know the frustration of not having the correct decals available. The order has been placed but I don't know yet when to expect delivery. If you want any, send me a private message saying how many and I'll put you on the list. After I actually get the decals I will let you know and we can sort out mailing addresses and payment. This is a one-time opportunity as Rail Graphics has no intention of adding this to their catalogue.

i thought I had figured out how to attach the artwork that Don supplied to Rail Graphics but apparently not, or at least it doesn't appear on my iPad. I'm trying to attach it again below and maybe it will appear on a real computer. If you are really interested I can email it to you.

    Gordon

I placed the order this morning and Ron said it would be 3-4 weeks.
This is the next to the final piece of artwork. I moved some stuff around just a tad on the final version.

Will these be HO only? I'd like some in N scale if they would be available.

    Thanks, Tom G.

Yes, they are HO only. His minimum is 25 sheets. You are welcome to use this artwork to have 25 sheets made in N. Costly proposition.

Yeah that's more than I need, but I was lucky enough to get some Oddballs Frisco steam engine sets on eBay.

PS: There are a couple of Oddballs N scale Frisco steam decals on eBay now: #360885373895

PS 2: Upon a close look, the Oddballs N scale Frisco steam decal set appears to be very similar to the HO set pictured below.

A question of general interest has been raised which is the approximate date that gold leaf quit being used and Dulux introduced. It got me wondering, for example, whether the 4400s that got stripes were ever lettered with gold leaf or whether they would have been Dulux from the beginning.

It's never simple, is it Gordon?

I'm going to take a shot at this one and guess that the Bronze Gold was phased out in the '30s and that the 4400s (oil burners at least) were done new in Dulux. I think most RRs were moving from the metallic gold into Dulux about that same time.
