I am doing some initial research on the aspect of installing one of the new Soundtraxx Diesel Tsunami decoders in an Atlas GP38 and have a question about the horns. Soundtraxx is offering 16 horn options. I remember that the Frisco used Leslie 5 Chime horns on these units and Soundtraxx is listing both a Leslie S5T and an RS5T. Which one is correct for the Frisco and what is the difference?
While I am on the subject, what horn would be prototypical for the Atlas MP15. Would it be the Wabco E2 they offer or something else?
As far as lighting functions are concerned they are offering both the Pyle National Gyra-Light and the Western Cullin D32 Rotary Beacon so it looks like they've got both of those aspects covered nicely.
Finally, has anyone done a Tsunami install yet and if so how did it go?

This is a follow-up post to the one I did earlier which will serve to clarify and update some issues that I have since learned. I am going to open a separate thread entitled "Sound & Sound Decoders" that will explain this further, but bottom line the current Sountraxx Tsuanmi 645 decoder does not have a non-turbocharged version. Please go to the other thread for more detail.

Bob, from the factory; the Leslie S5T. However, photo evidence shows Frisco's GP-38 fleet as having both factory installed Leslie S5T's and recycled (a Frisco policy)earlier S5T's from trade in power. The RS5T did not come on line until 1978. Leslie horn power chambers were interchangealbe making it possible to have older S5T's with all or a mix of RS power chambers after 1978. Yes, there is a difference in sound, that is in timbre only with the later version much more strident, and maybe a bit louder.

There is a photo gallery at http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=419317 with some close in shots of BNSF 3704 nee Frisco 365 with a single tone Leslie model S-31 horn, a common model on switchers of the era.

    Hope this helps,
    Ron
