Have you tried or even attempted to build a specific Frisco depot?

Also, if y'all wouldn't mind sharing which one.

Many years ago I started to build a model of the Frisco Depot in Cherryvale, I never finished it. I may but if I do I'll totally redo the roof. I built the model from photos and by measuring the foundation that is still there.

I've built the Blairstown Depot... but does this really count, considering it was from a Blair Line kit?

    It'll work.

Personaly when I get the time, money, and patience I plan to build the Hugo, OK depot. Somebody has done this before back in the '80s and donated it to the musuem.

    Nice looking Cherryvale depot!

What ever happened to the model of Newburg's remodeled depot that Jan Jester built? I swear only an architect could love a monstrosity like that.

I may have posted this once before, but this is a depot to be named later that I build a couple of years ago out of Evergreen styrene and some trim castings I bought from the Museum several years prior to that.

I wish I had some more of the castings.

I'm currently working Winona, MO; it started out as a stand-in for Pascola, MO but will fill-in for the Olathe, KS depot until I can find better photos.

Don, how did you end up with such a good-looking train board? I've tried scanning and scaling down the photo of the Vernon, TX board in Frisco Power but it looks very gray-rather like a scanned b/w photo!

I am with Paul... I have built 3 of Dale's fine kits. I have built 2 Grandview depots and 1 Blairstown depot.

I made my own train boards, Western Union and Railway Express signs in Photoshop and printed them on photo paper at high res. I'm happy with how they turned out. I'll do station names the same way when I start naming them.
Photoshop would also work well on something like the Vernon board with some work.

Thanks for the info, Don; they do look great.

I spent lunchtime yesterday looking at free font websites trying to find something that reasonably matches what I've see on station name boards. I have found one that's reasonable and might have to suffice as "good enough."

    Don,

Jan made the Newburg depot a Christmas gift to me before he passed. Right now it is sitting on my book case for all to see until I get the Lebanon Sub in (which will be a while). I will try to get some photos of it in this thread in the next day or so.

You are right, it is ugly but Jan scaled it correctly and it is a rather large station and looks great with some equipment in front of it.

    Ship IT on the Frisco!

What material did you use for the tile roof? I am gonna need a lot of that for the Springfield depot.

    Rick:
I used either Brawa or Faller brand tile roofing. I just looked in the 2006 Walthers catalog that I have and neither of those brands are shown. It does however have Plastruct Spanish tile. I know that it is still avaolable as I just saw some in a hobby shop in Joplin last weekend.
I built that building out of Cardboard and brickpaper 25 or so years ago. It has been in my shed for a long time. Someday I am going to redo the roof and finish the roof brackets. I sure wish the original building was still standing. I may redo the whole model and use Styrene the next time.

I've been digging around in the computer trying to find the images for the Frisco board, Railway Express and Western Union signs and I have the uncomfortable feeling I lost them when my HD went south a year or so ago. I was going to post them for everybody to use. I'll keep looking.

I remember thinking while hanging around the Rolla station during my time at MSM that I ought to take pictures of the Frisco train board, the other signage, the ticket window, the waiting area, the big wall clock on the southwest wall, the agent's office, the back side of the station, etc. It would have been easy to do as my "eating" club was only two blocks away so I was closeby often.

    I never did. :(

Karl, How was building the Grandview Depot kit? I've contemplated purchasing one for a while, can't ever remember to call while the shop selling them is open.

Incidentally, the Blairstown Depot kit will also work for the wood depot at East Lynn. The East Lynn depot appears to be a mirror Image of the Blairstown Depot (so you have to switch the positions of all 4 long wall sections to make the kit work). The only photographic evidence I've seen of this is posted in a thread on the East Lynn Depot here: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=1321 .

Dale recently published a couple of valuation lists for the Clinton Sub from 1933 and 1950. The 1933 list shows the frame depot, but the 1950 list only shows a passenger shelter and freight room (the brick building in the link above I assume).

For some reason I think I have also seen a similar depot which did not have the attached freight house, but I can't remember where it was located.

  18. In mid process of scratch-building the Van Buren depot. Real hard project for me. I built the rudy one a year back. Looks great my friends Grandfather had made measurements and had a few photos of the Rudy depot so I could build it.

Best of luck on all your projects,

    Bob -
Seeing your project gives me hope that I might finish my model of the Chaffee depot someday...

I have wall sections cut and sitting in a box, but the roof was a bit daunting. I just need to buckle down and finish it up.

    Well done!

I have managed to complete three stations so far, Dixon, Rolla and the Alhambra Grotto. Rolla was by far the most difficult of the three.
