A visit to www.proto48.org will bring up a list of suppliers that support Proto 48 modeling. Included are several manufacturers who supply decals and dry transfers not only in O scale but other scales as well. When you go to the site you will open to the 17th edition of the Proto48 Modeler. Run down the page to Custom Decals by Gerald Glow. His list is in HO scale and includes two sets for Frisco USRA rebuilt boxcars. Open the Full List and you can view the Frisco decals and a wealth of other roadnames for railroads and private owners alike. He mentions that "Suggested models are in HO but sets can be printed in other scales (prices adjusted accordingly). I am probably the only decal producer who has produced in Z to G scales including TT!" This leads me to believe that he might be willing to work with Frisco.org to produce additional quality decals for the Frisco and even perhaps Kansas City Terminal. Perhaps Frisco.org Officials can contact Jerry to determine if he would be interested in undertaking such projects? Also, a visit to MicroScale Decals brought up several sets in HO, N and O scale for the Frisco. Anyone tried these? Joe Toth The Trinity River Bottoms Boomer
A pleasure Terry! I sincerely hope OddBalls will get up and running ASAP. In the meantime, other sources will have to be located. In the event Jerry Glow, for example, has an interest in producing Frisco and KCT decals perhaps Frisco.org can work with him in regards to which models will be manufactured. It should be pointed out that the more orders in the most popular scales can be secured the lower the price will be for all members and other modelers requiring Frisco and possibly KCT roadnames.
Here is the direct link to Jerry Glow's decal site: http://home.comcast.net/~jerryglow/decals.html Jerry is a well respected steam to diesel era transition period Missouri Pacific modeler. http://home.comcast.net/~jerryglow/
FYI, I bought three sets of Jerry's decals a year ago - SLSF (Frisco Lines) USRA box, QA&P DS box, and WA&G box. I haven't used them yet, but they look to be very well done. And, he shipped them very quickly! Ken
I'm looking for decals of the WHITE background cookskin logo such as was used on the sides of black water towers. Any handy sources?
Two quick suggestions - Herald King HO set B-462 (gray 50ft box car) has a set of coonskins about one inch wide, black lettering, white background Herald King HO set B-465 (beige 50ft box car) has the same coonskin, black lettering, white background, but 1 5/8 inch wide Ken
Jerry Glow really seems to be the guy to consider working with for an extensive line of Frisco decals and he will produce in all scales from Z to G (mabie even live steam? LOL)... His personal site features his HO scale steam to diesel Missouri Pacific layout which is modeled in 1952 in Missouri and Arkansas. Check out the neat Frisco freight cars he has completed too! He also has a tad of Frisco track with an interchange. His concept constructing an around-the-room layout can be compared with Lance Mindheim´s space saving shelf layout that features CSX industrial switching in the Miami, Florida area. Visit www.shelflayouts.com to cast your eyes on some beautiful layout constuction that is fantastic in a word! Jerry also has a model of an East St. Louis Jct. Ry. stock car. Perhaps Ken can fill us in on what kind of freight car fleet this line rostered? I know nothing about it but assume it interchanged with the Frisco directly or in conjunction with another area railroad. Joe Toth
Thar she blows!" Thanks muchly! I don't remember seeing those the last time I checked Oddballs, but it has been longer than I thought it was since.
I don't think they have been big sellers, so Tom may still have some of the 811, 812 and 820-823 Frisco herald sets in stock. Ken
