In the Frisco archive today there's a picture of engine 4118. Does anyone know what has happened to the smokebox area? Explosion? Sort of looks like it's been cut away with a torch??

If I was going to guess, judging by the damage above her pilot to the air tank and pipes, it looks like it was shoved into the back of a cab or tender of another locomotive on the dead line. An attempt to keep the pieces in one place was made using a strap of metal across the hole.

*sniff* looks like a final slap in the face when you realize what was in store for her at the end of that line.
