I am modeling the Eastern Division from Springfield to Newburg in HO scale in the 1960's - 1970's. Does anyone know the size and color of the ballast used? A vendor product reference to the correct size and color would be great.

    Thanks.

Take a look at (Arizona Rock) and my album to see what it looks like put down. (looks better in person)
I dumped enough of it, in the early 70's. Greg pretty well sum's it up. light gray, light yellow, little darker gray (Chat)
At least part on the reason for using Chat, was it was easy to tamp under ties. Frisco had only a few sets of tamping equipment and it was reserved for the mainline. Lots of territories had to depend on hand tamping. The surfacing sets followed the Steel Gang, Crossing renewals and Slow Orders.
