There is a great article in "Classic Trains" this month called ARKANSAS ARMY DAYS In 1944, New Jersey railroader Bob Collins made the most of being stationed in a region where rail photos are comparatively rare. With a map and 20 of Collins’ black-and-white photos. By Louis A. Marre http://www.trains.com/Content/Dynamic/Articles/000/000/006/620vwoxk.asp There are some great rare photos of the Frisco in 1944 around Van Burean, Ft. Smith, Monett, & Springfield. Trains shown are #1031 "The Firefly", #1053, #1343 & 1335 Doubleheading, #4500 "The Meteor", and finally #4303. FM
It is a good article and gives some exposure to a part of the Frisco that received very little. The action shot of the 4200 class is a rarity. It's a shame more folks didn't shoot those engines in action.
