    Burrton, KS depot today.

Edit 3/21/2024: Photographs in this port are of the Arkansas Valley Interurban (AVI) railroad depot at Burrton, KS. Their line largely paralleled to the south the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) Railway along its route from Newton, KS to Great Bend, KS.

In the second photograph, note to the left of the depot the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) Railway westbound home interlocking signal that protected the former Frisco crossing diamond.

This depot stands on the southeast quadrant of the former Frisco and Santa Fe diamond on the southwest side of town.

The depot address is 418 West South Depot Street, Burrton, KS 67020.

First photograph is looking north northeast at the southwest corner of the depot. The second photograph is looking north northwest.

  3. Burrton, KS depot.

    FM

Edit 3/21/2024: Burrton was a joint agency depot with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) Railway. Note the two train order (TO) signals.

On the Frisco side is a paddle board train order signal extending from the agent / operator bay window. On the cross track is a lower quadrant semaphore train order signal for the Santa Fe.

To the right of the depot in the first photograph is the southbound home interlocking signal protecting the Santa Fe diamond. The diamond at this time was protected by an automatic interlocking signal system.

First photograph view is looking northwest. Second photograph is looking north.

    Added additional photograph narrative.

    Cody,

    Nice stuff on Burrton, KS.

Just to clarify, these two depot shots were the Arkansas Valley Interurban (AVI) Railroad depot.

The Frisco depot was torn town a long time ago, but the foundation still remains.
