The latest issue of the Warbonnet (the official magazine of the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society) arrived today. Nice surprise, it includes a well researched and written article by Keel Middleton on the Avard Connection in Oklahoma.

Middleton talks about the association the Frisco had with the Santa Fe dating back to the 1870's. He also covers the Santa Fe -- Frisco run throughs from 1959 to 1973 and from 1973 to 1980 (also ATSF--BN run thoughs after 1980.

The article includes a 1954 Frisco map, a 1961 Quanah map, condensed Frisco freight schedules between Tulsa and Avard in 1968, and some nice color and B&W photo's of Frisco locomotive and caboose equipment. Not what you'd expect to see in the Warbonnet.

It's a good read for those of us who might be modeling both railroads -- or just interested in railroad history.
