It is now official that Athearn will produce the GP15-1 in Frisco colors in their Genesis line. They had the CAD drawings on a computer slide show running at the OKC Train Show and except for the location of the roof beacon, the locomotive looked accurate to me. I have no idea at this point when they plan to put these into production. I will keep everyone updated when I find out more.

    Bob -

Great! Hope they (Genesis) get the red/orange color right. Athearn has a good history with this color, though the earlier versions (SW1500, GP38-2, SD40) were better than the more recent ones (GP40-2, GP35). Athearn's fonts and graphics have generally been good as well.

Sure wish Genesis would do their F7 in b/y!

  3. Afternoon all. Say fellows, when is Athearn going to be releasing the GP-15-1 in Frisco paint, and also, did any of the GP-15's ever operate in the Birmingham area? William.

I talked to the Athearn reps at the WGH Show in Philly and they said they were expecting to start releasing them in 2010. They had all the GP15s (Farr grills, inertial filter and the 15T) on their slide show so I don't know which roads they will be doing first. They were very road-specific on the details (the CNWs had the gong bell in the nose), and they said they do pay attention to feedback from modeling chatboards.
