This is a photo of my grandfather (the one in the middle) with the AT&N 401 before he went to work for Frisco. The picture was taken in July 1946. Sorry, I just looked at my post and saw how large the photo is, Do I need to delete this and try again?
Great photo! Regretfully, the AT&N has gone the way of the QA&P and our beloved Frisco. Like the Frisco, the Quannah got a book. Sure wish we could get one on the "Anytime At Night"! Elmer Durant, an Atlantic Coast Line switchman in Tampa, Florida, told me what the AT&N stood for way back in 1962. The AT&N seems to have dieselized with a fleet of Alco RS-1s. So did the Spokane International. The SI units had chime horns according to some information I read once. Anybody know what kind of horns the AT&N´s were equipped with? Joe Toth
From what i can find on the internet it is a 2-10-0 made by Baldwin in 1928 and after AT&N it became Woodward Irons #41 Around 1948, there are some pics to be found of it on the net. Thanks for filling me in on the "Anytime At Night" as i did not know that extra bit of info, Thank you, Ronnie
If memory serves me well, Elmer Durant and his bother Johnny (both ACL switchmen in Tampa) hailed from Alabama. So does my buddy Ed Bunch, 88 years young, who was the Frisco´s Tampa and Miami off-line traffic rep for years. Ed told me that QA&P stood for Quit Arguing and Push! Joe Toth
