Folks - What's the preferred method for creating the brackets that support the running board ends to the car end (see this photo from Glenn Young): http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=9193&d=1290920767 I have several Details West wooden running board kits that I'm adding to a couple of basic plastic kits; however, the molded plastic running board supports look like the proverbial "lipstick on a pig" with the more prototypical running boards. I'm thinking brass strips will do the trick, with rivets embossed on each end with a small track nail held in a pin vise. Other thoughts/suggestions? Best Regards,
Chris, I've used index card paper to replace some Westerfield pieces that got lost. I used a chisel blade to remove rivets from a scrapbox plastic tender shell. After painting you can't tell the difference. Your thin brass idea sounds better but Im a lazy modeler in many ways. These parts don't have to be very strong.
Chris, Details Associates makes some nice flat brass bar that can be cut and shaped easily. A little ACC, CCA, STP, PTA, whatever to stick it with and some paint and you are in bidness. Do you have any hobby stores in Colombia?
Jim, that sounds like a very good alternative. Not only do I have boxcars in the deadline that could provide some rivet detail, but my Micro Mark pounce wheels might work well for embossing a single rivet. Rick, there's nary a model railroadinghobby store in town. My local Westlake Ace Hardware (literally in sight out of my office window) carries K&S metals, as does the adjacent Hobby Lobby. There is a fellow over on Main St. in Boonville who has a good shop. I hear say there's one in Moberly, too, but I haven't been in or near Moberly in years. Best Regards,
Chris I have used some of these for rivets, they are real thin decals sheets with some type of resin embossed onto them, so its not just a dot there is a raised surface to them too. Tom Holley http://www.archertransfers.com/
There is a great railroad hobby shop called Meadow Ridge Trains and Hobbies out east of Jefferson City in a podunk little spot called Taos south of 63/50 on M. The people there are into model railroading and they are very nice. The can be found on the web.
Keith, I only hear of Taos during storm/tornado warnings! I'll have to look into it - thanks for the heads-up! Best Regards,
