Good job. That video needs to be sent to every manufacturer who builds in China or overseas. If Kadee can build it here, let's encourage others to do it!
Easy, Manny, easy. It'll be easier and better to get the attention of the manufacturers with a little nudge compared to whacking them with a baseball bat.
I didn't know Kadee was made in the USA. I can only think of two other companies that currently still do. Accurail and Exactrail. Ethan
For those of you that haven't watched the video yet, be sure and note the woman sitting there putting the little springs on coupler knuckles. Can one only imagine sitting there all day and doing that over and over. We all know how hard and frustrating it can be and she makes it look so easy.
The first time I operated at Rick's I had to fix one on an enigne. I had the tool and it was still a struggle. Hmmmmmmm, as I write this I had an idea. If one did not want to replace the springs, could they touch a little bit of solder (since they are metal couplers) and fix them to the "coupled" position and just leave them hooked up to another car? I'll have to try it sometime. Ethan
Hold the knuckle closed with your index finger. Overlap so that it can help hold the spring after you seat it against the back side of the knuckle shank. Insert tool into the spring. Compress and move it into the slot. Using another finger, keep the spring from bouncing out when you remove the tool. The spring will "pop" right onto the knuckles tab and there you go. Too easy! C'mon. You can do it!
I agree with these guys Ethan, After you see it done a couple times and do it yourself you will get the hang of it will be a breeze from then on. Don't do the soldier thing, as soon as you touch the spring with the iron the spring will get hot, loose it's spring, and just fall out. Thanks Tom Holley
