I have assembled a decent fleet of Frisco boxcars for the West Bottoms layout. Most are undecorated and I have the decals in hand or on order. This is about 30% of the cars on the layout. Here is what I have in process: 1 Tichy outside braced (undec) 3 Red Caboose AAR (undec) 1 Kadee PS1 (undec) 2 Atlas 1934 USRA on order-August release (undec) 2 Accurail outside braced (Frisco). I also have six Intermoutain and two MDC 36 foot reefers for the Armour plant (four to paint and decal) and two AMB cabooses to build. So a lot of time in the paint shop this summer. On all these undecorated cars what color red should I use for an early (small logo) paint job. As for the layout, I keep wanting to get more done before the first operating session, but I would guess thirty days. Rick, Mark, Keith, get ready. John |-|
Believe it or not but I use Duplicolor Sandable Red Primer for wood cabooses and boxcars and it looks dead on. I spray it with the big ol spray can and it goes on swell with no runs, etc. I wouldn't have believed it but learned of this from Bill Hoss when he was with AMB.
Don, That sounds like a Johnny Bench commercial "No runs, No drips, No errors"! Oh wait, that was Krylon.
I like Don's approach. As I recall, Railway Cyclopedia Three listed freight equipment colors numbers for popular vendor (Floquil, Accupaint, etc) for quite a few railroads including the Frisco. I'll go dig it out and have a look, too. Best, mike
Is there a Duplicolor (or other spray paint brand) color that would be a stand-in for Pullman green? Thanks, Tom
