Diagrams for SLSF 1613-1632 are attached. These for the famous Frisco "Russian" 2-10-0 decapods. These Frisco locomotive diagrams should be of interest to those who have, or are working on, the HO-scale Pacific fast Mail (PFM), Sunset Models or Bachmann Frisco 2-10-0 models. I do not know if this locomotive is available in the other scales. Also attached is the PFM back cover advertisement from the May 1965, Model Railroader. It announces the first run, by United Models, of this locomotive model. I bought one of these. My very first brass HO model, and I still cherish the memory of it, even though it is long gone. I had to sell it around 1970-1971 so I could make ends meet. I bought another PFM Frisco decapod from a later run to replace it several years later, but it was not as special as this first one. Imagine buying a model of this quality for $49.95! But, they were in 1965 dollars. I had it custom painted at Tom's Trains here in St Louis as SLSF 1621, the number of the 2-10-0 here at the NMOT, and it looked and ran great! It did have some problems on number 4 turnouts, however. I built a Silver Streak Frisco three window caboose to run behind it, which I still have. Ken
I was over in Germany in the Army when I saw the advertisement. I had Joe Collias save me one as I was about to rotate back to the land of the round doorknobs. I still have it.
Only a few of the Bolsheviks had the high side tender depicted in the PFM model. Most had a lower side tender as shown in the diagram.
I placed my name in the hat for one at Spotlight hobby shop in Kansas City, MO just as quick as I saw the ad in Model Railroader. I have always wondered how many models and runs that PFM made? I still have mine, SLSF 1618 , painted with help from a guy with the Shawnee Mission, KS club.
As my good luck would have it, your album photo "Decapod 3" was on the Home Page "Random Media" after I logged in. I agree that is is a fine-looking engine.
