    Hi Y'all,

Does anyone have any color photographs of 1890-1930 FRISCO rolling stock. I'd like to be as accurate on colors as possible. I'll continue to check the board, however, all paints seem to focus on the steam locomotive colors and those other things....:p

    Thanks,

    Manny

Brad Scott has posted a link to Missouri State University which has a digital copy of a TOC paint diagram book. Use the search function on this web site.

Although color photographs exist from the 19th century, color photography didn't leave the experimental side of things until the 1890's, and color photography didn't reach the hands of the amateur until the 1930's. A color photograph of anything, pre-1930, would be a rare find.

Thank you Karl for that very valuable information. I cannot seem to locate the documents you referred me to. No search for MSU or Brad Scott led me to that info. May I ask for a little help. I'm still learning how to navigate the new formatted site.

Thank you so much in advance.

Manny, try out the Advanced Search option in the upper right hand corner of the page.

I searched on keyword "Paint," and then put in the first name "Bradley." This brings a drop-down of any member names that it finds, including our own Bradley A. Scott.

Searching on these two criteria should (hopefully) give you that for which you're searching. Good luck!

    Best Regards,

This link will get you a little closer to the diagrams (from a Frisco Refrigerator Line discussion Dec 2009):

This link is to a collection of car diagrams produced in (about 1902). The diagrams were done in pencil and painted in actual car paint. The refrigerator car is lettered in the early Yoakum scheme: Frisco System. This may be the only pre-FRL lettering information to survive. The logo is similar to the old Frisco System box car seen in a Vista, MO thread.

The late 1890s ORER issues show that the KCFS&M had several (fewer than 75) refrigerators in several types (Hanrahan etc.) These were likely on the roster to serve the fruit growing area between Fordland and Thayer, MO. A photo of the fruit packing house at St Elmo, MO (near West Plains) shows lots of cars. The cars may be Armour, or ART...the lettering does not show clearly in the photos.

The second link shows the unknown cars at St Elmo. Both photos are in the Missouri State Digital Image collection.

Thank you so much. The early cars look like Oxide Red. It is too bright for Tuscan or Boxcar. That helps tremendously! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I was able to see the diagrams in person seveal years ago. The red (body color and passenger car roof color) appeared to be very similar to "brick red" from the crayons I had as a kid. All of the diagram paint appeared to have a clear varnish coat which does affect the final color.

The passenger car color is dark green, but appears to be nearly black in indoor lighting.

All my Westerfield Frisco freight car kits call for oxide red. The coal gondolas were black. It's nice to see a fellow "early steam" modeler!

    Hey James,

Thanks. I do love early steam. I need to get going on laying some track and getting this thing started. One thing after another keeps getting in the way. Dang kidney stones!

Went to the Missouri site. I got the KCCS and others. If anyone has KCCS and KCFS&M's, please post them up.

    Thank you!
