Gary, I recognize that you were doing a single repair, but locally the old heads used microscope slide cover glass to make windows and glue them in place using canopy glue like Pacer's Formula 560.
Looks like you did a good job, I had the same problem, mine needed weights, tuning of the journals and wheel sets. I got the 508 drawbars, they work great. Not for the faint of heart, hard to drill the holes. I have some 508 s and interiors if anyone is interested. Real good price. Bill
Such as these? I believe they are glass. What advantage do they have over styrene? Canopy glue I've heard of but I don't have any on hand.
Yes, exactly. They are perfectly clear, their thickness looks more realistic and the canopy glue dries perfectly clear. Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue will work as well. The canopy glue is available in R/C hobby shops and Aleene's is available at JoAnn or other craft stores.
Not Wednesday like usual for me. But I just got to take some pics yesterday. Another non-Frisco project (my apologies to the gods) but a fun project anyhow. Athearn released the ex-EL/Conrail SDP 45s about a year ago. One of these units has survived but the rest scrapped. By the time they were stored dead units they were very faded and rust covered. I was lucky and acquired one of the pre-production models from the advertising photoshoot. It is a dummy, which is perfect for my project. Here is a photo of the prototype, followed by my attempt. It will follow the unit being towed dead in tow to its resting place awaiting restoration. Enjoy,Steve proto: Starting point: My attempt:
Your model looks exactly like that unit that had been stored/not in service for a long time. Your skills/techiniques are quite impressive!
Thanks Andre I appreciate that. Kinda funny on the 1:1 the prime mover, generator and traction motors are gone so it is a dummy too.
Whoa Steve, that is one rusty HULK. Another MRH featured photo for sure. Joe, the Boston Mountain Sub progress is leaving me in the rear view mirror. I have managed to sneak a few minutes here and there, and had a relatively un-busy Saturday between many 14-hour days the past couple of weeks. I used that time to get some basic scenery down on the new Lightning Creek Mine sections on the Crawford and Cherokee. In short, going from: To something a bit more green and ballasted: You can see that there are a couple of spurs for a dock and warehouse, and a mine area that will hold about 6 short hoppers. Still needs some significant work. I stopped tonight trying to plant trees and shrubs. My static grass applicator lost it's "static" part way through and so some of the grass looks like me after six weeks of lock-up and no barber access. I did get it fixed, but it is difficult to un-grass an area. Will try to clean that up a bit and finish with the trees and a add more detail (switch stands, fixing the road (white area) and staining the grade crossings. Soon I will not have any excuse to get to work on structures. Well, I hope you are all doing OK out there in the Frisco Nation. Take care, and catch you next week. -Bob T.
Thanks Bob. the layout progress looks great. Sure makes me want a layout similar to yours. I could never handle Tom’s massive empire. But yours seems achievable. It’s a motivator to see each week.
I got a basket case Proto 2000 E8, and stripped the paint: All the details were broken off and missing, so I've got my work cut out for me. Mechanism seems solid, but mars light is missing so I'm tempted to tear the board out and rewire. Finished brakes rods for an boxcar underframe and got some paint on it. Decaling on an RPO: Finished boxcar: Had some PVC and ABS scraps, so glued a "roof" to the top and painted as long as the rattle cans were out. Little dark, but will work for background. K brakes for these cars: Grabs on this reefer: And fixed the trucks and ladder on this caboose: From my first HO train set, Christmas 1977.
For your benefit Gary, I just posted an additional thread in the Electrical/Electronics, Decoders & Programming forum with pictures and brief description of a sound installation for same. There is also a mobile decoder installation instructional document in that same forum. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/frisco-proto-2k-e8a-sound-decoder-install.12834/ http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/frisco-proto-2k-e8a-mobile-decoder-install.2373/
Well, I hope you are all doing OK out there in the Frisco Nation. Take care, and catch you next week. -Bob T.[/QUOTE] I love the curve/siding/crossover/combo or whatever you call it. Think I need to incorporate a version of that into my own...
Thanks Craig. That is a carry-over from the previous "Crawford and Cherokee". I always liked the design and included in the revised version. -Bob T.
If you are taking requests, Don ..... would love to find a 4-4-0 suitable for ~1920 for the Crawford and Cherokee. You know, no biggy-DCC, sound.....HA!
Not sure how good a deal this is, but I've had my eye on these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HALLMARK-M...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
